Raya Vocals

What to expect

  • The lesson will start with an informal chat about your past training and performance history (if any) and what vocal goals you are looking to achieve and develop during these lessons.

  • I will then ask you to perform an easy vocal exercise so I can assess the current function of your voice (I will teach you this at the start of the lesson).

  • We will then use some vocal exercises to help balance your voice and develop the specific areas you are wishing to target and develop. These will change from lesson to lesson as your voice progresses. They are great for making micro adjustments to your muscle memory to help coordinate your voice over time. I would recommend you practise these in between your sessions, so you can record them during lessons so you are able to practise them at home.

  • We will then work on a song or any current repertoire or performance you are working towards, so please come to the lesson with one in mind. This can be in any genre or style and something you find challenging and are looking to improve on. We can look at the whole song or alternatively focus on the more challenging sections, aiming to make those healthy and sustainable for you.

Zoom lessons

Zoom has been an amazing channel in recent years to deliver lessons all over the

world. It is highly effective and works just as well as in person lessons. It is a great

way of learning if you live abroad or cannot travel. Here are some of my top tips to

get the most out of your online lessons:

  • Have great wifi connection.
  • Have 2 devices, one for the zoom call preferably on a laptop so we can alter your audio settings. Another to play and receive backing tracks/exercises/videos, ideally on a phone.
  • Have a speaker to play your backing tracks and audios through, this is not essential but can be extremely helpful.
  • Please always have water with you, either in a glass or a bottle.
  • Somewhere you are able to make noise freely without feeling inhibited.

In Person Lessons

In person lessons will take place at my home studio in Hertfordshire. The address details will be sent out once your lesson is confirmed. I have a PA system and multiple microphones that you can use during your lessons, which can be extremely helpful if you are preparing for a performance or gig. Here are some of my top tips to get the most out of your in person lessons:

  • Make sure you come with any lyrics and backing tracks to songs you would like to work on, on your phone or a memory stick. Don’t panic if you forget or don’t have them as I can always get these during lessons, however it will save us time.
  • Please always come with a bottle of water.
  • If you already have a singing straw you use regularly please bring that along with you to the lesson. If you do not please don’t worry as I always have singing straws in my studio.
